The touch of our Indigo isn't easy to forget. With a 56.26% tint, a whopping number compared to the usual 20% of any other Indigo, our Indigofera Tinctoria dye claims anything it touches as its own.

The deep blues of our Indigo have a history spanning millennia. We’ve used ancestral knowledge to naturally extract this blue gold by soaking, fermenting and oxidising the Indigo leaves we grow on our farms.

the shades it holds

Organic Indigo holds opposites within itself – from the palest turquoise to the darkest purple. The shade of blue depends on the quality and concentration of Indigo used, how the vat is made and the number of dips.

The red and purple undertones of natural Indigo are impossible to mimic synthetically. In fact, even after 100 years of being used, artificial dyers haven’t been able to concoct ‘patina’ – the lighter shades of blue that look like a piece of the sky.

dyeing with organic indigo

Dyeing with natural Indigo is on par with magic to first-timers because Indigo baths are nowhere near blue (more like olive-yellow if we’re being honest) and the fabric’s colour isn’t blue like you expected when it comes out of the bath.

And then you watch oxygen doing its magic – turning your dyed fabric from yellow to green to blue. Get your Indigo cakes today and let’s get you started!

from one dyer to another

Dyeing with natural colours involves letting nature take its course. The shades you get will depend on the quantity of dye, water’s composition, dyebath’s pH, mordants, type of fabric, weather conditions and your own skill. This means it’ll take some time and a lot of practice before you can create the exact colours you were hoping for.

That’s why we urge you to enjoy the process of colouring using pieces from this Earth instead of worrying about the final product. Savour the moment you hold the fabric that you coloured and all the tiny imperfections it holds.
