Handcrafted by us to be loved by you

Colours drawn from earth

At Tarai Blue, we spend our hours harvesting leaves, flowers, shells and peels that hide the most wonderful hues in them.

We then go to great lengths to coax colour from them into things you surround yourself with.

Every natural dye we offer is the fruit of laborious planting, harvesting and extraction. We do this to connect you with the location, culture and identity we come from.

The natural dye studio at Tarai Blue works with makers, designers, and you, of course, to create designs that come alive. We also have our own line of handcrafted, naturally-dyed garments that can be traced back to us, every step of the way.

What we’re all about

Our traditional methods, plant-based products, and women-led team allow us to take full accountability for what we create – not just for today but for a hundred years ahead.

Our promise

Ħ Colours that are 100% natural.

Ħ Handcrafted by humans, not machines.

Ħ Filled with nature, not chemicals.

Ħ Built on local women’s craftsmanship

“It’s perfect, everything about it. The labours of so many hands produced a perfect fitting jacket! I am wearing it right now – warmed by the love that went into it. I might never take it off, this indigo magic from Tarai Blue.”

“This pigment made me a culture and world mind-traveller. From this moment appeared a collection of silk artworks made through wildflowers transmutation and an indigo traditional dye bath. I have a dream of coming to the farm, just have to cultivate the possibility.”

“You can spot the purely natural, undoctored indigo by the growth of a slight layer of fungus on the cakes. Tarai Blue’s organically grown indigo powder and cakes are of the highest quality and I can vouch for their efficacy and wonderful colour.”

“They put a lot of passion and hard work into growing one of the best (probably the most transparent) Indian indigo pigments on the market. Garments have indigo deep in their souls so you know who dyed and who made your clothes.”
